On a crisp September evening in golden dappled sunlight, you pad up the well-worn path to your 17th century cottage. Juniper Leaf (Juniperus communis)

Hung above doors and windows on auspicious days, juniper branches are used to ward away evil and bring protection both on land and at sea. In Scotland it was burned on Hogmanay to cleanse and protect the home for the year to come. The berries are used to flavour drinks, and are a well-loved tree both home and abroad.

Rowan Berry (Sorbus aucuparia)

Rowan trees are highly significant in Scotland, and it is terrible luck to cut one down. Rowan berries or twigs tied with red string are a potent protective amulet against all evil. Around ancient stone circles these trees are prevalent, adding to their mystical legacy. Deforestation has affected many native trees in Scotland, and donations from the sale of Equinox products are made to re-forestation efforts in the Highlands, which includes replanting populations of Rowan.
