Description

Rows of ancient wooden bookshelves line the arched gallery of a candle-lit library. In a leather armchair by the fire you've been absorbed in a medieval tome for hours, pouring over its illuminated parchment until only flickering red embers remain in the hearth. Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)

Plants in the Artemisia family, like Mugwort and Wormwood, were once used in the production of absinthe or in smoking mixtures because of their mild hallucinogenic effect. Today, we know this was down to the fact the plants in this family can be extremely toxic when ingested. Mugwort, the safer species of the group, is associated with divination and dream work. Its aroma is earthy, sweet and musky, making it a wonderful aromatherapy oil and its fresh leaves make a hearty but slightly astringent, tea.
