Finding a white heather among the more common pink and purple varieties is said to bring good luck. In Scotland, tales were told of warriors who fell asleep in a patch of white heather or who wore a sprig in their cap and were victorious on the battlefield in the morning. Pink and purple heather was made by the Picts into a delicious wine, which legend says, was the envy of the Vikings.
